With an awesome show of defense, the Los Angeles Heat took a commanding victory on Saturday March 17th, over the Lawmen of Orange county! The Heat took clear advantage of two first half turnovers that both netted touchdowns.
In a heads up play, first year defensive player Geo Lopez ( Culver City P.D ) picked up the football on a broken up pass play and scored his first NPSFL touchdown. Manuel Cid, another Culver City P.D. Officer playing his first game at cornerback for the Heat, picked up his first interception of the season, contributing to the Heat's winning effort.
Later in the same half, a Lawmen fumble was recovered inside the ten yard line letting the heat offense come on and Santa Monica Fire's Matt Hill score the games second touchdown with a run inside the red zone.
Making things worse for the Lawmen was the relentless play of Damian Marquez, ( LASD ) who in the first quarter laid the days hardest hit on one of the Lawmen running backs.
Robert Garnero ( CHP ) scored his first sack of the season.
In the second half, the Heat's long time veteran, Jason Wells ( Santa Monica F.D. ) caught the touchdown that slammed the cell door shut on the Lawmen.
Two new members to the Heat Football team contributed from the running back position. Jason Blankenship ( CHP ) and Jason Haley ( Santa County Barbara Co. F.D.) ran hard all afternoon advancing the yard markers.
Guiding the days offensive attack, were quarterbacks Mark Tolbert ( L.A. County F.D.) and Ryan Riddle, ( Santa Barbara Co. F.D ) both had a great day hitting a variety of receivers throughout the game.
This was an outstanding first showing and a total team effort! Go Heat!
